City of Poets
City of Poets was a roll out for the place of poetry in public life created by Annice Jacoby and Lisa Citron for the San Francisco Public Library. Maya Angela held the nation together with poetry at President Clinton's inauguration. City of Poets was her welcome home jubilee. City of Poets celebrated San Francisco as literary center of the universe featuring Francisco Alarcon, Tandy Beal, Michael Franti, Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra, Emmit Powell's Gospel Elite, Janice Mirikanti, Michael McClure and hundreds of other talents. City of Poets showcased poetry on the BART, in the schools, at Candlestick Park, on the Embarcadero, airwaves, cafes, a pageant of poems for the poemless. With Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Annice Jacoby orchestrated the Poet's Kaddish for Allen Ginsberg's memorial . When Robert Hass became the first United States Poet Laureate from west of the Rockies, Annice Jacoby was a founding producer for Watershed and River of Words. sponsored by the Library of Congress, Poetry Flash and the International Rivers Network the ongoing national literary environmental campaigns honor nature, writers and community.
